ADRIAN MOLE // THIRTEEN

My conclusion is that in both stories, family is involved.
In the film, thirteen, Tracy is who makes little by little the distance between her mother and her brother and her. She thinks that is she does it, she will look more mature and independent. Evie has part of the blame because she was who looked for Tracy and abused of the trust of Tracy's mother.

In Adrian Mole's book, his parents didn't take care a lot of
him. He didn't want to study, he only wanted to have a job and work every day, and that's not a normally mentality of a young boy who is studying.
In Adrian's case his mother cares for him but not enough and in Tracy's case nobody
wants to know about her, because now she is problematic and she has changed a lot
