MY ENGLISH COMPETENCE IN 2013

I have choosen my best written evidence and I think that both are from these year. I have choosen two of them because I think that both are quite good and I have written them carefully. The fisrt one is about how was my trip to Thailand. I think that it's good because I use some connectors and I explained myself well.
The second one is about waht I'm going to do this summer and how my life is going to change. In my opinion it 's also good because I writted it two or three days ago so it means at the end of course and it's clear that I have improved.

  1. http://homaa19.blogspot.com.es/2013/03/how-was-my-trip-to-thailand.html
  2. http://homaa19.blogspot.com.es/2013/05/summer-13.html

I would choose both to send them because I don't mind they are quite well written.

If I had to choose one of my best oral evidence, I would choose the final one about my TDR. I think that I speak fluency and everybody understand me so that's the one I would send.
I can't show you the video because it has a big weight.

MY ENGLISH PROGRESS FROM 2011 TO 2013

Looking back my first writting that I post to my blog was last year when I satrted 1st batxillerat. I think that it was quite good, the grammar was correct and I use words correctly. I have improved since the fisrt composition. I have learnt to use connectors ans some phrasal verbs which I didn't use before.

I think that the main difference beetween the first composition and the last one is that I have learnt to use some phrasal verbs and connectors and also I have learnt to writte better.

The stucture of the fisrt composition wasn't very clear because I didn't separete it clearly, but now I separate every writting in three or four paragraphs. That's importang because if you writte like that it's easily to understand it better.

Relating to oral presentations I also have improved because I have seen my first oral presentation again and I was a bit nervous because I repeated thousand times: "aaah". My pronunciation has also improved because in the video I pronunciated some words wrong. Even if I was talking in front of my friends I was very nervous.
Now It has changed a little. I saw again my TDR presentation and I also was nervous but I think that I did it quite well. I speak fluency and I didn't pronounce any word wrong. Maybe the only think that I did wrong was speak quickly but I think that I would improve it, and lose the shame.

MOBILES TO OUTNUMBER PEOPLE NEXT YEAR

It is said that next year there will be more mobile phones than people in the earth.

I think that it will happen because now everybody has his phone even children has phones.

A few years before boys and girls of 12 or 13 years old haven't money and computers so they spent much time playing in the street but now all is digitalize and I think that it's a shame because now children don't do anything else to stay in front of the computer and going to facebook, tweeter and other spaces.

DRUG FIRM JOINS FORCES WITH CHARITY

In Africa there are many charities. One of them has join forces with drugs for maintain their children.
They think that that's the only way for having enough money for everything. Before they didn't have enough food, medicines or gel to wash injuries and prevent infections.

It is a shame to know things like that. Here people is worried about nonsense and there they are worried because they don't have money for buying food, medicines, vaccines etc.

FLU IN PREGNANCY MAY RAISE BIPOLAR RISK FOR BABY

It is said that if you catch a flu during you are pregnant you have more probabilities to have a baby bipolar.
Experts say that mothers wouldn't have to be worried about that because if it's tru they will invent a vaccine for prevent that.
They look for different information and they draw that conclusion.

I don't think that it's true because I know people who cathed a flu during their pregnancy and now their children aren't bipolar.

In my opinion people who are bipolar is because of their family environment.

MY FUTURE HOLIDAYS

In my future holidays I want go to Cabo Verde in Africa. I really like Cabo Verde because it's a small country and it seems that people are very kind with everybody. It is also very beautiful. It is near the beach.

Every week I see an spanish programme called "Callejeros Viajeros" and each programm they show you a different place to go and they explein you a lot of things about their culture, society etc to know more about it.

One day I saw that it was Cabo Verde and I really enjoy it and I thing that I don't know much about this country but I love it. It looks like everything was perfect there, living near the beach, having a good relation ship with your neighbors...

They don't need a big amount of money for living. Life there is cheaper. I also think that I love this country like Thailand or Kenia because people who live there are happy with almost anything and that's a thing that we would have to learn.

SANT GEORGE'S DAY

Sant George's day is celebrated on the 23rd of April in Catalonia. It's the day of love which couples show their love each other. It has been celebrated since the fifteenth century. Men give a red rose to their partner and women give a book.

Why do they do that?

The legend says that there once was a small village which was invaded for a dragon which spitted fire. Everyone on the village was afraid. The dragon decided that he wanted to eat animals so he started. After a few days there weren't any animals and he started to eat people. People had to choose which person was going to die and one day they choose that the king's daughter. The king didn't do anythin for avoid it. When the young girl was in front of the dragon, a young and handsom man appeared. He saved her and kill the dragon and from his blood rose rised.

And that's why people gives roses and books that explain the legend.

FLOWERS TIME IN GIRONA

In Girona there is an habit. In spring the city is full of flowers that simbolize that the spring is here and summer is coming.

A good bit of people go to Girona for see that. It's very beautiful because there is a big contrast between this flower week and when all streets are without flowers.

Every year they change their style so going every year is great because you see different things.

And this is good for Girona beacuse it attracts a lot of tourists. I really like this because every year I go and I really enjoy it.

DHAKA BUILDING COLLAPSE: WOMAN PULLED ALIVE FROM RUBBLE

A few days ago there was an accident in India. A building fall down killing thousands of people that were working there. Firefighters and soldiers have been working for saving people and taking off dead people.

It was a factory where almost everybody were women. One woman called Rashma stayed there 17 days. Nobody saw her so she couldn't get out of the building. She shouted a million times but nobody heard her. She eat dry aliments and drink water.

The factory boss try to scape but he couldn't. I think that it's a madness to put such an amount of people in a bad building because then things like that happens and a lot of people die. People in Asia would have to chek their buildings twice or more before putting populate inside

DR CONGO TOUGHEST PLACE FOR MOTHERS - SAVE THE CHILDREN

It is said that a million newborn die per year. There are many places where a big amount of babys die, for example in India, Gambia, Mali, Somalia etc. And there are some other countries where newborn almost don't die like in Finland, Norway, Sweden...

The charity says that those dies are because of lak nutricion. In countries in Africa there are a lot of people underweight.

I didn't know that this amount of babys die in a year. I thought that there were less. I think that we could do something for save that babys, but if nobody has done it yet is because nobody wants to save them.

It's amazing to know how many people dies in pregnacy. I'm sure that if it happens here everybody would be complaining but as that happens in a different place that doesn't affect them they don't do nothing.

SUMMER '13

This summer I think that it will be different because my life will change a little bit. That’s my final year in the high school. Now I’m seventeen and this year I’m going to be eighteen. That mean that I will get my driving license and I would have my car. It also means that I will go at the University in Barcelona or Girona so I will live alone, without my parents. I’m a little bit afraid because there are going to be some changes.

I’m excited because this year I’m not going to work at the same place as last year. This year I’m going to work in Empuriabrava in a Bar called “Informal”. I think that there I will enjoy working more than last year.

Another important thing for me is the driving license. I want to be eighteen now because I will be allowed to drive and that means that I won’t have to ask to my parents to drive me anywhere.

And university, I’m very nervous because we are in our finals weeks. In a month we are going to “selectivitat”. I’m fairly afraid because we are stress and nervous and if we don’t pass those exams we won’t go to the university. And that’s why I’m really stress, we have exams and then we have to prepare our exams for the “selecitivitat” and I want to pass, if not I don’t know what I’m going to do.

If I pass those exams I will go to Girona or Barcelona so I will have to live there. Everything will be different because there I won’t have my parents, my sister or brother. I will have to do everything with my house friends.

This summer will change a little my life and I have to be prepared. I’m afraid but also happy.

FORMAL LETTER TO MR RAJOY

Mr Rajoy,

I wanted to talk you about the 23 article of human rights. I think that this article is not being respected nowadays because with the crisis there are many poor people who is unemployed so they don’t earn money and apart from this fact there are many others which make that people’s life awful.

Nevertheless I think that this only has happened now. When there wasn’t the crisis I think that everybody respected this article, but not now. There are many places in the world where people work a lot, more than 8 hours, and their boss pay them almost nothing. Meanwhile there are people who work 3 or 2 hours a day and earn a lot of money.

I also don’t understand why there are people like footballers earn such an amount of money, when there are a lot of people who don’t have almost even to eat.

Nothing else Mr Rajoy, please try to do something because not only this article is not being respect.

Your sincerely,

Homa.

JOB SATISFACTION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SALARY

It is said that job satisfaction is more important than salary but I don't agree with that. You can be satisfied with your job but if you don't earn enough money you can't live because everything in this life has a high cost.

Firstly, I think that salary is a very important thing in our lives, job satisfaction too but it isn't the most important thing. Without a good salary people wouldn't ejoy their jobs.
Secondlu, I believe that job satisfaction is on the second place because if you have a family and if you have to keep them, salary would be the most important thing for you.
Thirdly, I'm totally against with that because everything is life is expensive: food, clohes, houses, cars...and without money you can't do anything.

My conclusion is that job satisfaction is important but not the most because you can bevery satisfied with your jobbut if you don't earn so much money, you need, what will you do?

PRENUPTIAL ARRENGEMENT ARE A GOOD IDEA

Why prenuptial arrangement shouldn't be a good idea?
Nowadays the are many people who do that kind of arrangements beforegetting married. This arrangement supposes the separation of the posesions of each person so when they get married they still have the same as before, and if they get divorced they also have their own things.

On the one hand, there are some people who get married to another person who is rich but not because he or she loves that person,no. I think that people who have it clear from the beggining, are showng to everyone that the main reason for why they are getting married is true love.

On the second hand, I think that they are a good idea becase now eople can get divorced for many reasons like cheating their partner and if they haven't done this arrangement it is possible that they lose a big part of their posessions.

I am not sying that if people don't do this it is because they don't love their partner, but sometimes it happens so that's why I thik that they are a good idea.

My final conclusion is that prenups are a good idea because it means that people don't get married only for being richer.

CHALLENGE: CAN WE MAKE HUMAN RIGHTS MORE RELEVANT IN THE WORLD TODAY?

Nowadays I think that we can't make human rights more relevant because our world is now so advanced that people don't care of it. A lot of time ago I think that human rights were more respected because nobody was influenced by anybody. Almost everybody only take care of him and his family and eveybody respected it. Now poeple is influenced by many things like the television, the internet etc which make us not see that some things that we are doing now are not logical. Maybe in some years people will understand that doing wars and paying thousands to people who play football is completely stupid.

CAMEROON: RIGHTS ABUSES IN "HOMOSEXUALITY" PROSECUTIONS

Cameroon prosecutes people for consensual same-sex conduct more aggressively than almost any country in the world, four human rights organizations said in a report released today. The organizations – Alternatives-Cameroun, Association for the Defense of Gays and Lesbians (ADEFHO), the Cameroonian Foundation for AIDS (CAMFAIDS), and Human Rights Watch – found that at least 28 people have been prosecuted for same-sex conduct in Cameroon since 2010. Most cases are marked by grave human rights violations, including torture, forced confessions, denial of access to legal counsel, and discriminatory treatment by law enforcement and judicial officials.

The 55-page report, “Guilty by Association: Human Rights Violations in the Enforcement of Cameroon’s Anti-Homosexuality Law,” presents 10 case studies of arrests and prosecutions under article 347 bis of Cameroon’s penal code, which punishes “sexual relations between persons of the same sex” with up to five years in prison. The report found that most people charged with homosexuality are convicted based on little or no evidence. The report includes numerous cases in which the law against homosexual conduct was used for settling scores, showing how the law is easily subject to abuse. Dozens of Cameroonians do jail time solely because they are suspected of being gay or lesbian, the groups found.

“It’s regrettable that our country stands out as one of the few countries in the world that regularly prosecutes people for same-sex conduct,” said Dominique Menoga, executive director at CAMFAIDS, a Yaoundé-based organization. “Cameroon’s government says it’s committed to respecting human rights, but its actions, when it comes to sexual and gender minorities, suggest exactly the opposite.”

I think that that things only happen in poor contries because there people don't respect at all human rights. In my country I think that it would never happen because everything is very different. In Cameroon now it's happening that people are being prosecuted for same-sex conduct.

I think that we can't do anything for changing some things and for forcing them to obey some rights. People  from there are the only persons who can change this.

HUMAN RIGHTS

1. What are human rights?

Human rights are the equal and unalianable rights which everybody has. Each person has the right to freedom, justice and peace in the world. That human rights are protected by the law. The objective of each right is to promote that everyone has rights that has to be respected.

2. Why there were created?

Human rights were created to preserve the natural rights.

3. How many human rights are there?

There are thirty human rights.

4. Which human right were you not familiar with?

I wasn't familiar with the article 6 which says: "Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law". I think that this is not being respected, because in some parts in the world people don't respect it. I also think that it is only respected in Europe and in rich countries.

PEOPLE! ZARA COMMITS TO GO TOXIC-FREE

GP04CQ0_layout.jpg (532×800)That's a bad new because all clothes that we use are damaging our enviroment. It is said that now all that companys who produces clothes with hazardous chemicals are going to try to eliminate all that chemicals for no spoiling our world. Greenpeace began a dialog with Zara because they wanted to eliminate all the hazardous chemicals from its clothes. Now Zara has committed to eliminate this before 2020. Not only Zara produces clothes with hazardous chemicals, Pull & Bear, Bershka, Stradivarius and others produces clothes with chemicals.

CARNIVAL

Carnaval is in February. Like every year I get dressed up with my friends. We went to Empuriabrava's, Castello's and Sant Pere's carnaval and it was fantastic because we spend a good time laughing, dancing and singing with other people.

We had some problems for choosing the costume because we strted looking for a costum two or three weeks before the carnival and that was too late. But finally we have good luck and we found that costume so we decided to buy it. This year we dressed up as cavewoman. I think that we were so pretty. We were only girls because boys dind't liked the costume and decided not to buy it.

I like carnival because almost everyone who are around us gets dressed in that days and forget problems because they want to laugh, dance, sing and of course having a good time.

HOW WAS MY TRIP TO THAILAND?

My trip to Thailand was incredible. We left in the 28th of December and we arrived on the 11th of Jenuary. In 15 days we went to Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Chumphon, Krabi and Ban Krut.

When we arrived to Bangkok we stayed 2 days here, so we celebrate the year end on the capital. One thing that catched my attention was that they don't eat 12 grapes, it was a little bit strange spending the year end in shorts and shirt strips.
After that day we went to Kanchanaburi by train. There we stayed 3 days. I liked Kanchanaburi a lot because it was a small green village. There we went to the Erawan waterfalls and we saw a lot of monkeys jumping. We also saw a baby leopard.
We continue our trip but then in Chumphon but we only stayed there one day so we didn't do almost nothing.
We left Chumphon and we went near the beach, to Krabi. I liked a lot that place because everything was near the beach. There the beach isn't like here because here you don't see any monkeys near the beach where your going to have sunbathing. We stayed there 4 days. I liked a lot that place because we did things that I had never done before like ridding an elephant or going by canoe.
finally we stayed one more day in Ban Krut before going again to Bangkok for leaving Thailand. Ban Krut is a really calm village nest to the sea.

I really liked this trip to Thailand because everything was different there, people was happy having almost nothing and they always were looking at you with a big smile. They also respect you a lot and treat in a friendly manner.
I would like to go again and I think that someday I will do it.

SANT VALENTINE'S DAY

Sant Valentine's day is on the 14th of February. Lot of people in the world celebrates that day because is the day which many couples show their love. In Catalonia there aren't many people who celebrates it because here we have Sant George, that is more Catalan. People usually gives a chocolate box with cuddly toy. That's very romantic.

I usually celebrate that day because I like giving a little present to my boyfriend. I always try to give a special present that is something that I have prepared and that I'm sure that almost nobody would thing about giving it.

I like Sant Valentine's day because lots of people celebrate it and because you remember to your boyfriend or girlfriend how much you love him or her.

MY TDR'S SUMMARY

My research project is about knowing how many English people are living in Castelló d'Empúries and in Empuriabrava, why did they come, when did they come and if now they want to live always here.
I also wanted to know if they came alone or with somebody and if the economical situation influenced in their decision.

I think that I did a good research project because nobody had done before. I also think that it was great because doing it I improved my pronunciation, because I had to interact with English people, my reading, listening and reading.

I think that when I did my oral presentation I was so nervous that I didn't say all what I wanted and that's bad. Maybe I spoke very quick. A part of that I tried to look to everyone and to not stay still.

DESCRIBING PEOPLE

Marina, my friend, is 17 years old. She'll be overage on the 25th of June. We have been friends since 2005. We met in Sant Pere at the school. Since 2005 we have done many things together like singing in a choir, playing the piano together etc. Now she is studying 2nd batxillerat like me. She is a fairly good student.

Marina is a tall, thin and green-eyed girl. She has brown curly hair. She is a dark-skin girl. She usually bites her nails. She is smiling most of the time so we can say that she's a happy person. She hardly never gets angry. If you're with her it's quite difficult to get bored. She likes playing the piano but now she has stopped doing it. She is better than me because she has been playing the piano since 7 and I haven't. One of her favourite hobbies is playing volley-ball.
In the future she wants to be an engineer. I think that she'll full fill her goals because she's very focused.

I admire her because she is a warm-hearted girl and because she is a really nice person and a good friend. I hope that everything in her life will be great.

MAKING MOBILES FOR THE MASSES

It is said that Barcelona is the center mobile's world. In barcelona there was a week for showing bests mobiles. now you can do almost anything from your mobilephone or your tablet. Tecnologhy has improved a lot.

They showed a lot of mobiles but now phone's industry is divided for a barrier because now there are hybrid telephones.

Tecnologhy industry now is very competitive because everyone wants to do something different that don't exist, and also improve each time all their creations.

I think that all these creations don't have a lot of usings or maybe they have but they aren't necessaries because now they have invented a tablet which you can control with your eyes instead of using your fingers and in my opinion that's ridiculous, but everyone has it's own opinion.

New vocabulary:
  1. barrier

FUKUSHIMA: "SMALL INCREASED CANCER RISK"

It is known that people who were in Fukushima when the earthquake out at sea slammed in this factory, have more probabilitys to have a cancer because this accident spoiled people's health and many other things.

The substancial amount of radiation was realased into the enviroment, so for that reason many people have this risk to have this type of  disease.

In general boys have more probabilities to have cancer than girls, but there are a 70% of little girls who may have thyroid cancer.

Not only people who had the accident have the probability of develop a cancer, but there other people like doctors may have the likelihood.

For farmers this is a bad news because it kills their animals or it causes different diseases without a vaccine because it has not been developed yet.

Animals which have been affected for that virus are calves and lambs. It is said that this virus is fairly damaging because hitherto it has affected more than 1.500 farms in UK and that's a lot.

SOUTH AFRICA SUSPENDS TAXI DRIVER ARREST "DRAG" POLICE

A taxi driver was dragged by the police in South Africa. Everyone is outraged because people think that there isn't any respect to anyone.

A bystander record the scene. The taxi driver finally died because the authorities had mistreated him.

I think seems incredible that even now people carry on doing things like that. I'm sure that if they were in his situation and they would have survived they would have denounced the police and tried to do anything for kill them.

The South African Police Service expressed that they were extremly shocked but I don't believe that because if they had been, they would had done something immediately.

I think that those to "policemans" ought to be arrested for their entire live for not causing harm.

QUITTING SMOKING "REDUCES ANXIETY"

It is said that if smokers began smoking less it will be better for them because they would have less anxiety.

It is proved by doctors that the anxiety levels among a person who smokes and a person who has stopped smoking are higher.

People who have some kind of disorders have more chances of having high anxiety levels. However people who smoke the same number of cigarettes but don't have any disorders have problems with anxiety levels but no as much like people who have both things.

In our world there are many people who smokes a lot, I think hat they're not conscious about what they are doing because if they smoke near somebody ,who doesn't, they are damaging the other person's health and his own.

I am not against smokers, because if they smoke is their problem, but I think that they should think a little bit about people who are around them because smokers are also harming us.

  1. belief

VEGAS WOMAN ARRESTED FOR HAVING SEX WITH PITBULL

One woman was arrested in Las Vegas because she was under influence of drugs. She was having sex with a pitbull on the back yard. Her neighbors saw her and called the police because that wasn't normal. Her reactions wasn't normal so maybe she may have problems.

I think that she was a fairly crazy girl because I have never heard about something like that. It's incredible because she wasn't conscious about what she was doing.

People like that, who are able to do that, ought to be admitted to a mental hospital. I also thing that having pets like a dog require care.

New vocabulary:
  1. greeted
  2. charged
  3. gross
